Herbal Tea Infomation
Herbal tea, also known as tisanes are drinks made from steeping herbs, flowers, spices, or dried fruit in water.
- Almost all herbal teas are caffeine-free. (Yerba mate is the exception.)
Since there’s no caffeine, you can drink it all day, into the evening without keeping you up at night.
- Herbal tea is super easy to brew and doesn’t need to be as precise as making regular tea like black or green tea.
Herbal tea Isn’t Real Tea
Herbal teas are not real tea since they don’t come from the camellia Sinensis, the tea plant.
Real tea, like black tea and green tea, is made from leaves from the camellia Sinensis plant, and they all contain caffeine.
HERBAL TEA TIPS
- Loose herbal tea will always make a better-tasting cup than herbals in tea bags.
- Herbal tea doesn’t get bitter like black or green tea does when you steep it longer. If you want a stronger brew, steep it for longer than 5 minutes.
- If you like herbal tea sweetened, try a little honey as an alternative to sugar.

Rebekah, This is a great article on the whole range and benefits of Healthy Herbal Teas. My parents were fanatical about English Breakfast Tea. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I never acquired the habit and was more attuned to herbal teas. My favorite is certainly Chamomile because of its gentle soothing flavor. I must admit, though, I rather like the sound of the Butterfly Pea Flower Tea because it sounds like fun and my favorite color is blue!
What a great review! thanks for checking out my post! I look forward to hearing what you think of my other things on my site!
I absolutely LOVE herbal teas. I did not know that herbal teas aren’t truly teas. I find that very interesting. Do any herbal teas contain caffeine? Or do they have to contain Camellia Sinensis in order to have caffeine in them?
My top two favorites are lavender tea and chamomile tea. I like how calming both are. I haven’t tried some of the herbal teas you listed and plan on trying one of the rooibos teas.
Hello, thanks for the great questions.
No, the herbal teas don’t have any traces of caffeine in them which makes them great for your night time tea.
